One hundred FREE places available for the Festival of Suffolk Community Games

With two weeks to go until the Festival of Suffolk Community Games, organisers are excited to announce that 100 places have been made available for general admission, inviting Suffolk families to attend and take part in a variety of inclusive activities.

The event which is scheduled to take place from the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre and King Edward VI School facilities on Saturday 9th July, will provide a unique opportunity for participants to take part in non-traditional sporting activities such as BMX, climbing, circus skills, dance, paddleboarding and skateboarding, whilst traditional sporting events such as athletics and football can be spectated on the day.

In addition to the exciting array of free activities available, attendees of the event will also be lucky enough to witness the special visit of the Queens Baton Relay, that has been traveling around all the Commonwealth Countries ahead of the Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham next month.

James Payne, Senior Development Officer at Active Suffolk said:

"The Festival of Suffolk Community Games is set to be an incredibly fun day and Active Suffolk are excited to be playing a lead role in organising such a prestigious event.

The event will allow children from across the county to try sports and activities that they may not ordinarily get the opportunity to do.

We want the Suffolk Community Games to open new doors for young people and their families, whilst also encouraging them to find confidence, passion and enthusiasm for movement, physical activity, and sport in their everyday lives."

As well as the opportunity for young people to engage in activities on the day, the general public are also invited to spectate the event offering participants an exciting celebratory atmosphere, plus there will be the chance to access the Ipswich Town Football Club Fan Zone and watch a spectacular closing celebration put on by Dance East.

Jason Curtis, Head of Community at The Ipswich Town Football Club Foundation says:

"Ipswich Town Football Club and The Ipswich Town Foundation are delighted to be part of the Suffolk Community Games as it continues our pursuit in engaging with as many children in Suffolk and the local area as possible.

Having the opportunity to showcase our provision, encourage participation in sport and have a positive impact is a key aim of ours and hope this will in turn create more fans of the future for ITFC."

The Suffolk Community Games are part of the Festival of Suffolk schedule of events which have been offered across the county to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Thanks go to the headline sponsor Tru7Group and the local authorities: Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council, West Suffolk Council, Babergh District Council, Mid Suffolk District Council and Ipswich Borough Council, for the opportunity to organise such a prestigious and unique opportunity for young people and their families in Suffolk.
