It is important coaches and instructors are supported in their development to become the best they can be and deliver engaging sessions to their participants. The Workforce Strategy (2019-2024) is committed to supporting and developing Suffolk's infrastructure of coaches by:

• Embedding professional standards across the workforce by increasing access to continuous professional development
• Developing and increasing access to support and development offered to coaches
• Working with expert partners to develop specialist training courses and support
• Developing coaches through mentoring and leadership programmes
• Broadening the diversity of the workforce to better reflect Suffolk's communities

In order to achieve some of the objectives outlined above, Active Suffolk are working in partnership with the Chartered Institute of the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). CIMSPA is the single chartered professional body for the sport, fitness, leisure and physical activity sector. CIMSPA provides professional recognition of your status and qualifications and is developing career pathways for all in the sector – from student to CEO.

CIMSPA has been mandated by government and Sport England as the strategic lead on workforce development for the sector, to achieve the goals of the 2015 Sporting Future and 2016 Towards an Active Nation strategies. Active Suffolk is the first lead employer partner in the Country and also the first Active Partnership to work with CIMSPA in this way. As the regional lead for the East, we will endorse CIMSPA membership – offering a 20% discount when professionals sign up through Active Suffolk.
